MAMBU BAYOH – THE MAN BEHIND THE LENS
PHOTOGRAPHER’S ARRESTING IMAGES MADE AFROPUNK’S 2015 VISUAL CAMPAIGN AND BEYOND

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of working alongside Mambu Bayoh for his third commissioned project with AfroPunk. If you know me, you know the incredible respect and love I have for this artist’s work. It takes a lot to impress me, and Bayoh never fails. He has the distinct ability of capturing moments and translating a movement, a brand, and a time into an image. He truly lives up to the saying: “an image worth a thousand words” – so much so, that AFROPUNK used all of his photos from the 2014 festival + Red Bull Sound Select Afropunk 2015 for their visual campaign. Not only did they feature his images online, they also included his work in every poster/flyer/banner throughout the city! I went social media ham and took some shots, because PROUD (you can check it out via @un_delice on any of your favorite digital vice).

We live in a cluttered visual world (how many of you know an instagram/vsco famous photographer?) where almost anyone can take a good picture. Bayoh doesn’t simply take good pictures – the self proclaimed social documentarian snaps the essence of a time, a memory, or a person. The rarity of an artist such as he is exactly why he is a trusted source and go-to for many. IN FACT – Michelle Obama and Lenny Kravitz (pictured above) have purchased his work to add to their private art collection.

UPDATE — Mambu Bayoh is featured on CNN: “AFROPUNK: The new counter culture”

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY feature’s Bayoh as part of their 13 POWERFUL IMAGES FROM AFROPUNK FEST 2015.
